Oral history as a research method of history. Study on history and methodology
Abstract
W mojej dysertacji, poprzez analizy zagadnień historyczno-metodologicznych, dowodzę, że:- Historia mówiona przede wszystkim jako metoda badawcza, ale także jako obszar badawczy, czy też ruch społeczny (w zależności od punktu widzenia) paradoksalnie (patrząc na skomplikowany proces adaptacji i krytyki metody w świecie akademickim) jest kwintesencją tego, co możemy nazwać „uprawianiem historii”,- Historia mówiona jest wyjątkowym obszarem badawczym, gdzie można zaobserwować zazębianie się kluczowych problemów występujących w historiografii (prawda, definicja źródła historycznego, subiektywność/obiektywność w badaniach historycznych, funkcja narracji i rola historyka w procesie konstruowania/rekonstruowania przeszłej rzeczywistości),- Historia mówiona jako metoda badawcza przełamuje sztywne struktury dyskursu akademickiego, przez co sama historia staje się bardziej demokratyczną dyscypliną. Dzięki historii mówionej, sama historia może jednocześnie funkcjonować jako dyscyplina akademicka i społeczne przedsięwzięcie. Historia mówiona jest specyficzną siecią łączącą badacza, świadka historii oraz publiczność. Ten wielowymiarowy związek między przeszłością, teraźniejszością i przyszłością stawia historię bliżej samych ludzi.
In my dissertation, through analysis of historical and theoretical issues, I demonstrate that: - Oral history, primarily as a research method but also as a independent research field and social movement (depending on one’s point of view), paradoxically is (looking at the difficult process of oral history adaptation on academic grounds and its strong critique) a quintessence of something that we can call “doing history”;- Oral history is a specific research area where one can observe an encounter between the key issues generally considered in historiography (the truth, definition of historical sources, objectivity/subjectivity in historical research, the role of narrative, the historian inside the process of construction/reconstruction of past reality);- Oral history as a historical research method overcomes the closed and rigid structure of academic history; it makes academic history more open and democratic. Thanks to oral history, history can be at the same time an academic discipline and a public enterprise. Oral history is a specific kind of network of connections between the historian, the witness of history, and the audience, and this multi-dimensional relation between past, present and future brings history closer to people.
