Child’s cognitive activity in the space of educational environment
Abstract
In this dissertation, cognitive activity and a problem of environmental support to it of 10 year-old children is undertaken. It is believed that for children to be successful, there must be an array of learning supports around them. These supports include schools, families, out-of-school programs and activities, libraries, museums, health centers and other community-based institutions. When they make linkages to build environmental learning context and support, they are able to reinforce and sustain the child’s development. Therefore, there is a need to define the role of local environment in the context of children’s development and relationship between the quality of learning environment and particular sociopedagogics features connected with local environment itself as well as teacher’s and parents’ attributes. This dissertation is an attempt at searching for an answer to questions of: what the character of pupil’s cognitive activity in contact with environment is; what a child experiences while learning in contact with the environment are; what factors determine taking up environmental activity; in what ways a family provokes the child to cognitive activity; in what ways a school induces the child to cognitive activity; how a school is supported by local environment’s institutions in order to create educational offers for children. The research was carried out in five different types of local environments (villages, small city, the city centre, housing estate and the suburbs of a big city). In the paper it is established and shown what kinds of educational spaces in local environments are created.
