Religiosity and morality of rural Catholics. Sociological study on the example of the Parish Immaculate Heart of Saint Mary in Świerzno.
Abstract
Rozprawa jest poświęcona religijności i moralności katolików wiejskich. W celu określenia ich obecnego stanu, przeprowadzono ilościowe i jakościowe badania empiryczne. Pierwszą, a zarazem główną metodą był sondaż z wykorzystaniem kwestionariusza ankiety, w którym pytania skupiły się na kilku wymiarach: deklaracjach wierzeń i praktyk religijnych, wiedzy religijnej, wierzeniach, praktykach, stosunku do Kościoła instytucjonalnego, wspólnoty parafialnej i duchowieństwa, doświadczeniach religijnych i moralności. W kolejnym etapie przeprowadzono wywiady pogłębione, podczas których badani mogli wyjaśnić różne aspekty własnej religijności. Dla dodatkowej weryfikacji prowadzono obserwacje podczas nabożeństw i ważnych wydarzeń religijnych. Ostatnią wykorzystaną metodą była wtórna analiza danych statystycznych pozyskanych z kancelarii parafialnej. Praca zawiera dziesięć rozdziałów. W pierwszym rozdziale zostały omówione założenia teoretyczne i metodologiczne. Pozostałe rozdziały są szczegółowym omówieniem badań empirycznych, każdy z nich jest poświęcony innemu wymiarowi religijności. Wyniki badań wskazują, że religijność badanych katolików pozostaje na wysokim poziomie, ale w niektórych parametrach jest nierówna, przez co nie zawsze spełniają oni wymagania stawiane im przez Kościół. Rozbudowane, wieloletnie badania pozwoliły stworzyć przynajmniej szczątkowy obraz współczesnej religijności i moralności katolików wiejskich.
The dissertation is devoted to the religiosity and morality of rural Catholics. In order to determine their current state, quantitative and qualitative empirical studies were conducted. The first and at the same time the main method was a survey with the use of a questionnaire, in which the questions focused on several dimensions: declarations of religious beliefs and practices, religious knowledge, beliefs, practices, attitude to the institutional Church, parish community and clergy, religious experiences and morality. In the next stage, in-depth interviews were conducted, during which the respondents could explain various aspects of their own religiosity. For additional verification, observations were made during devotions and important religious events. The last used method was the secondary analysis of statistical data obtained from the parish office. The discourse contains ten chapters. The first chapter discusses theoretical and methodological assumptions. The remaining chapters are the detailed discussion of empirical research, each of which is devoted to a different dimension of religiosity. The results of the research indicate that the religiosity of the surveyed Catholics remains at a high level, but in some parameters it is uneven, which means that they do not always meet the requirements set by the Church. Extensive, many year's research allowed to create at least a rudimentary picture of contemporary religiosity and morality of rural Catholics.
