Scholars in the Service of the Sargonid Dynasty
Abstract
Dysertacja ma za cel ustalić i zaprezentować sytuację uczonych mezopotamskich, służących dynastii Sargonidów. Przedmiotem zainteresowania są nie tylko poszczególne grupy uczonych, ale także konkretne jednostki. Rozdział pierwszy ma charakter wprowadzająco-metodologiczny, kolejne od drugiego do szóstego skupiają się na źródłach poszczególnych gatunków: zapytaniach i raportach wróżebnych, kolofonach, korespondencji astrologów, listach uzdrowicieli, wróżbitów, egzorcystów i kapłanów lamentacyjnych. Rozdział siódmy stanowi charakterystykę uczonych znanych z tekstów innych niż wymienione wcześniej, w ósmym zaś przedstawiono wyniki analiz o charakterze przekrojowym, obejmujących więcej niż jedną grupę tekstów i profesji uczonych. Najważniejsze ustalenia powtórzone zostały we wnioskach. Praca zawiera również edycje tekstów oraz biogramy wszystkich znanych uczonych służących dynastii Sargonidów.
The main aims of the dissertation are to determine and demonstrate the situation of the Mesopotamian scholars, who served Sargonid kings. The subjects of interest are both the individuals and the specific groups of scholars. The first chapter functions as an introduction and shows the chosen methodology. The chapters from the second to the sixth one are focused on the specific kinds of written sources and the related professions of the scholars: oracle queries and diviners, astrological reports and letters from astrologers, correspondence of the diviners, physicians, exorcists, lamentation priests. The scholars who were not mentioned in those kind of sources were described in the seventh chapter. The more complex analyses, which refer to more than one group of texts and professions were described in the last, eighth chapter. The most important results of the research were repeated in the summary. Dissertation includes also few editions of the texts and short biographies of every Sargonid scholar.
