Media message as the factor shaping the political views of the present-day youngsters in the country of Nowy Tomyśl
Abstract
Podejmuję próbę deskrypcji oraz empirycznego zbadania udziału mediów w procesie kształtowania poglądów politycznych młodzieży, zdając sobie sprawę, że opisanie tej zbiorowości jest niezwykle trudne, choćby z uwagi na mnogość i dynamikę przemian, jakie występują w naszym kraju. Wielowątkowość tych przemian, postępująca globalizacja zjawisk, procesów politycznych, ekonomicznych i społecznych, dodatkowo komplikuje odnajdywanie się młodzieży w tej rzeczywistości. Socjologowie opisujący ową rzeczywistość medialną piszą o postępującej patologizacji życia społecznego i atrofii więzi moralnych, o narastającym syndromie braku zaufania i instrumentalizacji wartości oraz o powszechnym poczuciu beznadziejności i bezradności. Funkcjonujące w tej rzeczywistości media zajmują w życiu młodzieży ważne miejsce. To dzięki mediom ma ona nieograniczony dostęp do informacji, a także możliwość jej gromadzenia i przetwarzania. Docierające do młodych ludzi przekazy wprost niekiedy zniewalają ich umysły powodując, że stają się niewolnikami pewnych wzorców zachowań, orientacji światopoglądowych i biernymi naśladowcami stylu życia sugerowanego przez media oraz asymilując zarówno dobre, jak i złe elementy obcych kultur. W tych przypadkach, media stanowią zagrożenie dla prawidłowego rozwoju młodzieży zwłaszcza, nie dysponującej kompetencjami odbiorczymi i nie potrafiącej dokonywać selektywnego wyboru i krytycznej oceny przekazu.Podjęta próba opisania wchodzącej w dorosłe życie młodzieży miała dać obraz aktualnego stanu jej świadomości i poglądów politycznych, i taki obraz dała. Pewne zawirowania, czasem udzielanie sprzecznych odpowiedzi są motywowane trudnym okresem trwającej transformacji systemowej, brakiem wzorów postępowania, jasnych i powszechnych wzorców osobowych, brakiem dostatecznej wiedzy o politycznym życiu i regułach rządzących w polityce. Zdaję sobie sprawę, że nie ustrzegłem się w tej pracy uchybień, nieścisłości i daleko idących uproszczeń.
I attempt to describe and examine empirically the participation of media in shaping political views of young people. I am aware that such a description is extremely difficult if only due to the multitude and dynamics of transformations in Poland. The multifaceted nature of these transformations together with the on-going globalization of political, social and economic processes, makes it all the more difficult for the youngsters to find their place in the surrounding reality. When describing this reality, sociologists point out to the progressing pathology of the social life, the atrophy of moral bonds, the ever-growing lack of confidence, instrumentalism of values and the prevailing feeling of hopelessness and helplessness.Mass media which operate in this reality play an important part in lives of young people. It is media that give the youngsters unlimited access to information as well as enable to store and process it. The messages which reach the young, sometimes outright enthrall their minds. As a result, young people become slaves to behavior patterns, attitudes and world view as well as passive imitators of the life styles suggested by media who assimilate both good and wrong elements of alien culture. In these cases, mass media constitute a threat to the young persons development, especially when the young man or woman does not have full-fledged receptive competence and as such is unable to undertake the selection and critical evaluation of the message.This attempt to describe young people entering the adult life, is supposed to present the actual state of the political consciousness and attitudes. Occasional inconsistencies and contradictory answers in the questionnaire have been caused by the difficult systemic transformation, the lack of clear and common role models to follow as well the lack sufficient knowledge about the rules governing the politics.I hope, this thesis sheds light on the young people of today, at least to a degree. At the same time I am aware that occasionally it might contain minor, errors, inaccuracies and oversimplifications.
