Abstract
Rozprawa doktorska jest próbą analizy postawy i odtworzenia obrazu działalności Kościoła katolickiego archidiecezji gnieźnieńskiej i poznańskiej wobec Wielkiej Wojny w latach 1914-1918. Autor pracy przystępując do badań zadał sobie kluczowe pytanie, jakie było jego stanowisko i program przeciwdziałania skutkom konfliktu oraz konkretna aktywność. Temu zagadnieniu podporządkowano pytania pomocnicze, które wyznaczyły zakres praktycznych poszukiwań naukowych. Praca składa się z czterech rozdziałów. Tytuły rozdziałów odzwierciedlają badaną problematykę. Są to warunki działania i sytuacja Kościoła katolickiego w Poznańskiem w latach 1914-1918, jego duszpasterska posługa oraz działalność społeczna i charytatywna. Ostatni rozdział traktuje o stosunku duchowieństwa wobec sprawy polskiej. W polu zainteresowania znalazło się także szereg problemów, wpływających na życie codzienne. Większość działań na poziomie archidiecezji w obszarze działalności duszpasterskiej i charytatywnej ma swoje źródło w decyzjach papieskich i zjazdach biskupów niemieckich. Stąd wynika przywiązywanie ogromnej roli do duszpasterstwa jeńców wojennych. Wielka Wojna przyczyniła się do wzrostu pobożności wiernych i jeszcze mocniejszego związania się ich z Kościołem. Jak wykazały badania na wielki podziw zasługują również wierni katolicy i całe społeczeństwo polskie, które w obliczu dramatycznej sytuacji we wszystkich obszarach życia nie zachowali się biernie.
The doctoral dissertation is an attempt to analyse the attitude and recreate the image of the activities of the Catholic Church of the Archdiocese of Gniezno and Poznań towards the Great War in 1914-1918. When starting the research, the author of the work asked himself the key question: what was its position and program for counteracting the effects of the conflict, and what was its specific activity. The auxiliary questions that determined the scope of practical scientific research were subordinated to this issue. The work consists of four chapters. The titles of the chapters reflect the studied issues. These are the conditions for the operation and situation of the Catholic Church in Poznań in the years 1914-1918, its pastoral service, as well as social and charity organization. The last chapter deals with the attitude of the clergy towards the Polish issue. The field of interest also includes a number of problems that affect everyday life. Most activities at the archdiocese level in the area of pastoral and charity activities have their source in papal decisions and meetings of German bishops. Hence the importance attached to the pastoral care of prisoners of war. The Great War contributed to an increase in the piety of the faithful and an even stronger bond with the Church. As shown by the research, the faithful Catholics and the entire Polish society deserve great admiration as they did not act passively in the face of the dramatic situation in all areas of life.
