Quality of life of young adults with a cochlear implant
Abstract
W rozprawie doktorskiej zatytułowanej Poczucie jakości życia młodych dorosłych z implantem ślimakowym, podjęto problem subiektywnego spojrzenia na jakość życia z perspektywy młodych dorosłych, korzystających z implantu ślimakowego. Część teoretyczna dysertacji obejmuje trzy rozdziały. W części metodologicznej pracy przedstawiono krótką charakterystykę badań jakościowych, z uwzględnieniem zasadności ich stosowania w naukach społecznych, jak również zaprezentowano filozoficzno-metodologiczne inspiracje podjętych badań. W dalszej kolejności dokonano opisu procedury przebiegu badań z wykorzystaniem autobiograficznych wywiadów narracyjnych. Następnie zaprezentowano wyniki analizy i interpretacji zgromadzonych narracji, które ostatecznie pozwoliły na wyłonienie czynników determinujących poczucie jakości życia młodych dorosłych z implantem ślimakowym. Zgodnie z przyjętymi założeniami, badania umożliwiły pełniejsze poznanie przekonań użytkowników implantów ślimakowych na temat własnej biografii oraz wydobycie znaczenia, jakie narratorzy przypisują implantom w konstruowaniu własnej tożsamości jednostkowej i społecznej. Ponadto, badania zrealizowane w takiej procedurze, pozwoliły osobom niesłyszącym zabrać głos w swojej sprawie, co wiąże się z przeciwdziałaniem ich dyskryminacji, określanej mianem audyzmu.
In the doctoral thesis entitled Quality of life of young adults with a cochlear implant, the problem of a subjective look at the quality of life from the perspective of young adults using the cochlear implant was taken. The theoretical part of the dissertation includes three chapters. The methodological part of the work presents a brief description of qualitative research, taking into account the legitimacy of their use in social sciences, as well as the philosophical and methodological inspirations of the research undertaken. Subsequently, a description of the procedure for conducting the research using autobiographical narrative interviews was made. Next, the results of the analysis and interpretation of the collected narratives were presented, which ultimately allowed to determine the factors determining the quality of life of young adults with the cochlear implant. According to the adopted assumptions, the research allowed for a fuller understanding of the beliefs of cochlear implants about their own biography and the extraction of the meaning narrators attribute to implants in constructing their own individual and social identity. In addition, they allowed Deaf people to speak their case, which was to counteract discriminatory activities, known as audits.
