Youth attitudes towards the person of Jesus Christ. A study based on research in Bydgoszcz high schools
Abstract
Daje to szansę, aby ukazywać im Chrystusa.
"Who do you say I am" (Mt 16,17). This Jesus's question, which he asked to disciples, was asked to selected students of Bydgoszcz high schools in a questionnaire. Previously, the church documents, popes' peeches to young people, schoolbooks and hangouts for Religion Education were analyzed to define in what way Jesus Christ is shown in them. It turned out that young people have a lot of opportunities to meet with their Savior during the catechesis process, however, some circumstances make it difficult. Respondents, answering a series of questions, came out their attitude towards the Person of Savior. Their knowledge, emotional attitude and how much of their religious practises focus on Jesus was examined. Young people recognize God in Jesus and most of them agree that He is present in the sacraments although they do not often receive them. What was essential for the research was the personal statements of the respondents. They showed how important relationships are in their religious life and whether they have met real witnesses on the way of their faith. Young people who had the experience of a religious community or read the Bible by themselves experience the present of Jesus Christ in sacraments more intensely. Unfortunately, most responders do not pray with the Word of God regularly. What is important for their future relationship with Jesus is the fact that a significant part of them participate in catechesis or participate in retreats, and their attitude towards faith is not neutral. It gives a chance to show them Christ.
