The Empathic Museum. Ethnographic Open-Air Museums from the Perspective of Accessibility Effords for People with Disabilities
Abstract
Rozprawa doktorska jest próbą spojrzenia na muzea skansenowskie z perspektywy koncepcji dostępności dla osób z niepełnosprawnościami. Wspomniana kategoria dostępności jest szeroko rozumiana w niniejszym opracowaniu. Autorka ukazuje, że jest to idea, która od dawna kształtowała się w obszarze muzealnym, choć wcześniej nadawano jej inne znaczenia niż w obliczu zmieniającego się w ostatnich latach prawa związanego z dostępnością instytucji publicznych m.in. dla osób z niepełnosprawnościami. Rozprawa doktorska składa się z trzech części: „Muzeum idei”, „Muzeum dostępne” i „Dostępność w muzeum”. W pierwszej części opisano historyczny proces instytucjonalizacji muzeum z perspektywy kategorii dostępności. W drugiej części autorka opisuje, do czego dostęp daje muzeum oraz w jaki sposób jest on realizowany. Ukazuje, że muzeum umożliwia dostęp do dwóch podstawowych przestrzeni: do wiedzy („źródeł poznania”) oraz do „obszaru polityczności”, rozumianego jako możliwość sprawczego uczestnictwa w przestrzeni publicznej. W ostatniej części skupia się na zagadnieniu dostępności muzeów dla osób z niepełnosprawnościami. Omawia w niej m.in. zaplecze teoretyczne wspomnianej idei oraz okoliczności muzealnych działań na rzecz dostępności.
The doctoral thesis constitutes an attempt to look at open-air museums from the perspective of accessibility for people with disabilities. The aforementioned category of accessibility is widely understood in this study. The author shows that it is an idea that has long been shaped in the museum field, although it was previously given different meanings considering the changing law in recent years related to the accessibility of public institutions i.a. for people with disabilities. The dissertation consists of three parts: "Museum of Ideas," "Accessible Museum," and "Accessibility in the Museum". The first part describes the historical process of museum institutionalization from the perspective of the category of accessibility. In the second part, the author reflects on the forms of access to a museum. She reveals that the museum provides access to two basic spaces: the knowledge ("sources of cognition") and the "political arena", understood as the possibility of agency and participation in public space. In the last part, she focuses on the issue of accessibility of museums for people with disabilities. She discusses the theoretical background of the aforementioned idea and the circumstances of museum accessibility efforts.
