Multimedia museums. New space for the historical narrative
Abstract
W swojej pracy, w oparciu o konkretne przykłady muzeów historycznych w Polsce koncentruję się na próbie opisania specyfiki muzeum historycznego nowego typu – muzeum multimedialnego tj. takiego, w których, narracja oparta jest częściowo na ekspozycji cyfrowej - multimedialnej - wykorzystującej nowe technologie. Samo muzeum multimedialne ma wiele wariantów i odmian. W poniższej pracy chciałabym przede wszystkim ograniczyć się do analizy specyficznej odmiany muzeum multimedialnego - mianowicie muzeum multimedialnego typu narracyjnego. Problematyka współcześnie tworzonych wystaw niesie ze sobą wiele nierozstrzygniętych dylematów i pytań. Można ją więc badać z wielu różnych perspektyw. Szukając odpowiedzi na kluczowe pytanie o kształt narracji we współczesnym multimedialnym muzeum historycznym znalazłam kilka takich “punktów”, miejsc, które pozwoliły mi uzupełnić luki istniejące w badaniach. Każdemu z tych “punktów” poświęciłam jeden z rozdziałów tej pracy. Dotyczą więc one kolejno: roli obrazu w muzeum historycznym, jego miejsca w ekspozycji. Traktuję tu pojęcie obraz szeroko, odnosząc je do teorii kultury wizualnej. Kolejnym omawianym obszarem jest analiza funkcji i znaczenia “szczególnych” eksponatów na wystawie historycznej (które porównuję tu do chrześcijańskiej relikwii zastanawiając się czy “zdobywają” one podobny relikwii status w kontekście prezentowanej w danym muzeum narracji historycznej). Innym tropem jakim tu podążam jest wpływ sztuki współczesnej (reprezentowanej tu poprzez zjawisko perfomansu oraz instalację artystyczną) na strukturę wystawy stałej, oraz jej znaczenia w muzeum historycznym.
In my paper, based on concrete examples of historical museums in Poland .I concentrate on an attempt to describe the specificity of a new type of historical museum - a multimedia museum, i.e. a museum in which the narrative is partly based on a digital -multimedia - exposition that makes use of new technologies..The multimedia museum itself has many variants and forms. In the following paper I would like first of all to limit myself to the analysis of a specific variety of multimedia museum - namely multimedia museum of a narrative type. The issue of contemporary created exhibitions carries many unresolved dilemmas and questions. It can therefore be examined from many different perspectives. Looking for an answer to the key question about the shape of narration in a contemporary multimedia historical museum, I have found several such "points", places, which allowed me to fill in the gaps existing in the research. I have devoted one chapter of this paper to each of those "points". So they deal in turn with: the role of the image in the historical museum, its place in the exhibition. I treat the notion of image broadly here, relating it to the theory of visual culture. Another area discussed is the analysis of the function and meaning of "special" artefacts in a historical exhibition (which I compare here to a Christian relic,wondering whether they "acquire" a status similar to that of a relic in the context of the historical narrative presented in a given museum). Another track I am following here is the influence of contemporary art (represented here by the phenomenon of perfomance and art installation) on the structure of a permanent exhibition, and its meaning in a historical museum.
