Idioms in the Polish literary reportage of authors making their debut in the 60s and 70s of the twentieth century
Abstract
Rozprawa doktorska jest efektem próby ukazania sposobów aktualizacji związków frazeologicznych i ich wpływu na kształtowanie specyficznego stylu beletrystyczno-publicystycznego gatunku. Materiał badawczy stanowiły ponad trzy tysiące stałych związków wyrazowych, wyekscerpowanych z dwudziestu pięciu reportaży siedmiu autorów. Pierwsza część pracy dotyczy sfunkcjonalizowanych aktualizacji kanonicznych związków frazeologicznych. Druga poświęcona jest wszelkiego rodzaju innowacjom w strukturze leksykalnej i gramatycznej jednostek. Trzecia część opisuje sposoby naruszania łączliwości semantycznej i składniowej frazeologizmów, ostatnia natomiast poświęcona jest analizie najbardziej złożonych przekształceń, obejmujących różne płaszczyzny ustabilizowania stałych połączeń leksykalnych. W efekcie analizy zebranego materiału powstał zbiór jednostek ilustrujących różne funkcje stylistyczne i cele językowe, ukierunkowanych zarówno na tworzenie odpowiedniego stylu narracji, jaki i na konstruowanie języka bohaterów. Szczegółowa interpretacja pozwoliła wyróżnić najważniejsze funkcje aktualizacji kanonicznych oraz innowacyjnych użyć frazeologizmów, wynikające z publicystyczno-literackiego charakteru gatunku: artystyczne, pragmatyczne, mimetyczne, uwierzytelniające (o cechach wartościujących lub dokumentujących) oraz informacyjne.
The doctoral thesis is the result of an attempt to present the ways of updating idioms and their impact on shaping the particular belletristic and publicistic style of the genre. The research material consists of more than 3 thousand bound collocations excerpted from 25 reportages of 7 authors. The first chapter of the thesis refers to functionalised canonic updates of idioms. The second part is devoted to the innovations in the lexical and grammatical structure of idiomatic phrases. The third section describes the ways of infringing the semantic and syntactic integrity (innovations of lexical collocation) of idioms, whereas the last part concentrates on the analysis of the most complex transformations encompassing various planes of fixed lexical combinations. After the analysis of the collected material we created a repertory of units illustrating various stylistic functions and linguistic goals aimed at constructing a proper style of narration, as well as creating the protagonists language. The detailed interpretation allowed to distinguish the most important functions of canonic updates and also the innovative use of phraseological phrases arising from belletristic and publicistic style of the genre: artistic, pragmatic, mimetic, authenticating and confirming the author’s knowledge of the matter (of evaluating or documentary features) and informative.
