Var tackad! On the possibilities of passive transformations of the Swedish verb "tacka" and its equivalents in Polish and German
Abstract
Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden Passivisierungsmöglichkeiten des Schwedischen, Deutschen und Polnischen besprochen, und später am Beispiel einiger Konstruktionen mit den Verben "tacka", "danken" und "dziękować" miteinander konfrontiert. Die Passivtransformation ist bei transitiven Verben möglich, und nach der grammatischen Definition von Transitivität (Polański 1999) sind das polnische "dziękować" und das deutsche danken nicht transitiv. Für die Sprachen mit dem reduziertem Kasussystem, wie Schwedisch oder Englisch, kan Transitivität jedoch semantisch definiert werden: ein Verb ist transitiv, wenn irgendein Objekt von ihm verlangt wird. Im Schwedischen ist es also möglich das Verb "tacka" ins Passiv zu setzen, und ein klares Beispiel dafür ist das Passivimperativ "var tackad" (dt. "sei gedankt").
The paper presents the possibilities of passive transformations in Swedish, German and Polish, which are confronted with each other on the basis of some constructions with the verbs "tacka", "danken" and "dziękować". The use of passive is possible with transitive verbs, which – according to the grammatical definition given by Polański (1999) – the Polish "dziękować" and the German "danken" are not. For languages where the case system is reduced, like Swedish or English, transitivity may be defined semantically: a verb is transitive if it demands any object. In the case of Swedish it is possible to transform the verb "tacka" into passive, an example being the passive imperative construction "var tackad" (eng. be "thanked").
