Young adults in the age of digitization challenges of the present time
Abstract
Młodzi dorośli (18-35) to osoby, które urodziły się i dorastały w wyjątkowym czasie, gdy nowe technologie wkraczały w życie każdego człowieka i powoli umacniały swoją dominującą pozycję w codziennej rutynie. Świat, w którym żyją, cechuje się dużą zmiennością i niepewnością. W wielu wypadkach, gdy dorastali, byli wypuszczeni w świat bez odpowiedniego przygotowania, gdyż nie istniały wzorce postępowania. Nie było również przygotowanych zabezpieczeń chroniących ich przed negatywnymi skutkami technologii. Zostali oni zatem wychowani w nowym środowisku przy zastosowaniu starych metod i wzorców. Praca ta zwraca uwagę na problemy, z jakimi młodzi dorośli muszą się mierzyć. Podjęte rozważania dotyczą między innymi różnych przekonań i stereotypów na temat młodych dorosłych, kwestii realności idei cyfrowych tubylców, nowych nawyków i pragnień społecznych. Poruszana jest kwestia dorosłości i jej markerów, waga mediów społecznościowych i ich roli w kształtowaniu opinii ich użytkowników, rozpowszechniania się fake newsów oraz powszechnego zalewu informacyjnego. W pracy został nakreślony obraz współczesnego świata, jego ogólnej charakterystyki – globalności, niepewności, zmienności – oraz problemów, jakie wiążą się z nimi. Dużą wagę poświęcono samej technologii i cyfryzacji codzienności. To, co jest dla młodych dorosłych najważniejsze oraz jakie mają poglądy na współczesny świat, zostało wykazane przy pomocy dwóch badań. Pierwsze z nich polegało na analizie memów internetowych, drugie natomiast oparte było na wypowiedziach autorów esejów nieformalnych.
Young adults (18-35) are people who were born and grew up in a unique time when new technologies entered everyone's life and slowly strengthened their dominant position in everyday routine. The world they live in is characterized by great variability and uncertainty. In many cases, as they grew up, they were released into the world without adequate preparation because there were no role models. There were also no safeguards prepared to protect them against the negative effects of technology. They were therefore brought up in a new environment using old methods and patterns. This work draws attention to the problems that young adults have to face. The considerations include various beliefs and stereotypes about young adults, the reality of the idea of digital natives, new habits, and social desires. The issue of adulthood and its markers, the importance of social media and their role in shaping the opinions of their users, the spread of fake news, and the general information flood are discussed. The work outlines the image of the modern world, its general characteristics - globality, uncertainty, variability - and the problems associated with them. Much attention was paid to technology itself and the digitization of everyday life. What is most important to young adults and what views they have on the modern world have been demonstrated by two studies. The first one involved the analysis of Internet memes, while the second one was based on the statements of the authors of informal essays.
