Item Middle School Science Teachers' Declaration about Meaningful Learning(2020) Abu Ghanima, Elias; Dylak, Stanisław. PromotorThe study aims to evaluate middle school science teachers' beliefs and their teaching practice of pedagogical components of meaningful learning (PCML). This study also seeks to determine whether teachers’ beliefs have any relationship with their practice of these components. The study also examined background factors in order to determine whether they affect teachers' practice of meaningful learning (ML). A questionnaire was applied to evaluate science teachers' beliefs and practice of the PCML. Findings suggest that science teachers hold high positive beliefs towards ML and its various components and also indicate that, in general, science teachers in middle schools tend to practice the PCML. Findings show a general strong positive relationship between the beliefs and the practice of PCML, and also imply that there are statistically significant differences between the mean values of the practice of some components attributed to the type of school as well to gender. A semi-structured interview was applied to identify obstacles that might impede the implementation of ML, and conditions that may improve its implementation. Three kinds of conditions were examined for enhancing ML: pedagogical, administrative and student associated. Five themes of obstacles were suggested: teachers' beliefs, lack of professional qualification, educational workload, high class size and students' personal characteristics.
