Item Kościół instytucjonalny w krytycznym spojrzeniu dzisiejszych katolików polskich (I)(Polskie Towarzystwo Religioznawcze, 2011) Baniak, JózefJózef Baniak – THE INSTITUTIONAL CHURCH IN A CRITICAL VIEW OF TODAY'S POLISH CATHOLICS This article presents the problem of attitudes of today’s Polish Catholics towards the Church, in reference to the outcome of sociological research in this matter. The most difficult part of the adap-tation process of the Church and clergy is the socio-cultural reality started by the changes at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century. In that time in Poland emerged completely new conditions of living, never found before civilization phenomena, but in the first place Poles gained freedom and political independence. These changes significantly influenced their attitudes towards the Church and clergy in the parishes. These attitudes became more critical and unconstrained than it was visible in the time of socialism. Poles become more religiously independent, they reject the moral guidelines of the Church (especially those regarding sexual ethics and family life), the number of Catholics who disbelieve the priests and criticize the hypocrisy and immoral behavior of the clergy had increased. The deepest critique comes from young people, especially regarding the political involvement of the Chu-rch, the pseudo-celibate of the priests and monks, as well the compulsory religion lessons in schools.Item Kośćiół instytucjonalny w krytycznym spojrzeniu dzisiejszych katolików polskich (II)(Polskie Towarzystwo Religioznawcze, 2011) Baniak, JózefJózef Baniak – THE INSTITUTIONAL CHURCH IN A CRITICAL VIEW OF TODAY'S POLISH CATHOLICS This article presents the problem of attitudes of today’s Polish Catholics towards the Church, in reference to the outcome of sociological research in this matter. I did my research among 955 secondary school pupils, this includes a number of 636 females and 319 males. Predominant majority of respondents declared a relation towards Catholicism, similarly majority declares also basic religious practic-es, this includes a participation in obligatory Sunday mass. The religious respondents also par-ticipate regularly in religion lessons in their own schools. On the other hand, my investigations showed, that religious belief and cult practices do not play a significant role in personal and social life of questioned males and females. Religious beliefs, accepted by this youth do not stand in relation with their attitudes and moral behavior. This relation may be observed only among deeply religious people. The examined secondary school youth have a very rudimentary religious knowledge, a large percentage of them doesn’t know the basic religious prayers, prin-ciples of Christian belief and the moral principles of Decalogue. The level of their religious consciousness is low, and even very low among religiously indifferent people. Considerable percentage of them clearly steps aside from the Church, its religious teachings are being disre-garded as well its ethical principles.Item Świeckie elementy w jednorazowych praktykach religijnych katolików miejskich. Studium socjologiczne na przykładzie badań w Kaliszu(Polskie Towarzystwo Religioznawcze, 2012) Baniak, JózefJózef Baniak – SECULAR ELEMENTS IN ONE OFF RELIGIOUS PRACTICES OF THE URBAN CATHOLICS. A SOCIOLOGICAL STUDY ON THE EXAMPLE OF A RESEARCH IN THE CITY OF KALISZ In this article, I show the problem of disposable desacralization of mandatory religious practices, also known as rites of passage, which play an important role in the lives of Catholics. These practices are: a baptism of newly born baby, first communion of school children, confirmation of high school students, religious wedding, religious funeral of the deceased. Desacralization of these religious practices is a slow process of elimination of sacral and religious elements of the purpose of each of these rites of passage and replacing them with secular elements. This process includes both the ideological sphere and the sphere of practical Catholics. As a result, under the impact of this process, many Catholics treat each of these religious ceremonies only as secular rites, that are, often seemingly, hardly related to religion or religious morality. The basis for the analysis of the process of transition rites desacralization are my sociological studies that I realized on separate groups of respondents in Kalisz – adults and young people. Level of desacralization of those rites is varied and depends on a variety of objective and subjective factors.Item Wizerunek kapłana w wyobrażeniach młodzieży polskiej. Socjologiczna analiza na podstawie badań z lat 1983-2008(Polskie Towarzystwo Religioznawcze, 2011) Baniak, JózefJózef Baniak – THE PICTURE OF THE PRIEST IN THE VIEWS OF THE POLISH YOUTH. A SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS FROM THE YEARS 1983-2008 In this paper I present the attitudes (imaginations and evaluations) of Polish youth in gymna-siums, high schools and universities towards institutional priesthood and the work of priests in parishes, all observed during three separate sociological researches in the years 1983-2008 (that is in the past 25 years). The attitude of all of my interlocutors towards priesthood and priests themselves did significantly change in that time period, especially in the first decade of the 21st century. In the time span examined what did change, was the perception and understanding of the essence of priesthood by the people interviewed, as well their evaluations of the need for becoming a priest present in the Polish society and their own families, or the attitude of interlocutors towards the role of the priest in the religious and secular life of people – individuals and as well social groups. The percentage of respondents accepting fully the priesthood and seeing positively its role in the society did systematically down crease in the mentioned period. On the other hand, in the examined pe-riod of 25 years a significant percentage of high school and academic youth had understood correct-ly the essence of priesthood, also noticed a social need for the work of priests in their parishes. In the evaluation of this part of respondents institutional priesthood means a „free” religious vocation (that is by God), without which no priest is able to prevail in the priesthood or successfully play the role in the Church and the society, or being a role model in the sense of a person, morality and religion for secular Catholics. On a such a priest do model, in the views of the these respondents, other candidates aspiring to enter the priesthood. We may add that in the case of Poland it is an important question or even a serious and basic one.
