Calvert Casey o la isla impossibe
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2003) Stawicka-Pirecka, Barbara
Casey was an emigre Cuban writer, whose works belong to a trend of the most important and original literary achievements which describe the unique character of Cuban literature of the 60’s. It was the beginning of the Revolution and the first period of the so called diaspora of Cuban writers who were leaving the island at that time as a result of oppression and acts of terror under the Castro regime directed against the Cuban intelligentsia and above all against homosexuals. The writer also spent some time in the USA, Mexico, Haiti and Geneva. He spent the most part in Rome where he committed suicide at the age of 45. His works, written under the influences of English and American literature, are at the same time one of the most original and personal expressions of «the artist outside motherland» for whom homesickness for Cuba and Havana became an obsession which defines his sensitivity of writing and the way he perceived the world.

Le verbe «pouvoir» au passé composé et les relatiońs aspect/modalité
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2003) Kuszmider, Barbara
The aim of this paper is to specify some of the relations between modal domain and aspect. In French, verbal aspect is strictly linked to the past tense. That is why we propose an analysis of sentences with pouvoir in passe compose. Several typological-grammatical categories implicated in the modal interpretation are examined. Thus, considerable restrictions on person, interrogation or semantic property of the verb are identified in the functioning of the two main types of modality, deontic and epistemic.

Os tipos das construçõdes com clivagem em português
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2003) Mikołajczak, Sylwia
This paper deals with the four types of cleft constructions in Portuguese. As the mentioned constructions are deeply embedded in the emphatic process of focalisation, we try to give, in the introduction, elear definitions of the terms involved in the process, concentrating mainly on Focus and Topie. The corpus is constituted by the typology of the cleft constructions in Portuguese, containing pseudo-cleft, semipseudo-cleft, and the proper cleft constructions, as well as the “é que” structures. We try to make an analysis of the focus position in the samples coming from such authors as Casteleiro, Vilela, Sedano and our own examples. This paper is organised in three main parts: 1. Introduction; 2. Cleft construction types in Portuguese; 3. Conclusions.

Sobre las propiedades temporales y aspectuales: el pretérito en la construcción «estar» + gerundio
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2003) Nowikow, Wiaczesław
The paper presents the different questions related to the grammatical status of the construction “ester" + gerund (està cantando) in the modern Spanish language. The author concentrates with special attention on the use of Preterite in the a.m. construction (estuvo cantando) and on the distinctionbetween temporal and aspectual properties in the description of this paraphrase. In particular, the most important property of estuvo cantando is the expression of the actions ‘in course’, but, at the same time, ‘limited in time’.

Schopenhauer dans le roman. A propos de Sixtine de Remy de Gourmon.
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2003) Malinowski, Wiesław Mateusz
The subject of the paper is the mode of presence of Schopenhauer's philosophical thought in Remy de Gourmont's 1890 novel entitled Sixtine, roman de la vie cerebrale. The pessimistic premisses of the main character's extreme subjectivism are accompanied by an attempt to escape from Schopenhauerian omnipotent will to live (vouloir-vivre) through art, in this case through literary activity. Here originates the characteristic and innovative on the aesthetic ground motif of the novel in the novel in Gourmont's work.

Le projet du bonheur conjugal dans Le Mesnagier de Paris
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2003) Loba, Anna
Mesnagier de Paris, drafted in 1393 by an unknown bourgeois person for his young wife, is considered as the most famous medieval treaty concerning the education of women. The happiness is not the main subject of Mesnagier; it is not even evoked in a direct way. The happiness or bliss remains an objective presupposed by the advice given to the young wife. The main purpose of all the eductation is order. The happiness is its corollary. The vision of bliss sketched in Mesnagier de Paris concentrates around the image of the house. The project of the bourgeois authors thus is to build through the structure of the domestic space in its materiał and symbolic dimension a vision of the deserving and honest life. The conception of happiness is based on an at the same time medieval and bourgeois vision of the world. The idea of the stable and unchanging character of the relations between the sexes and that of the ambivalent naturę of women - are medieval. However the ecstasy of conjugal happiness softens in a sensitive way the usual moralizing rhetoric. The need of prosperity and materiał comfort, declared openly, is connected to the urban culture that gets ready for the splendors of the Renaissance.

«Sextina» de Enric Casassas: Un ejemplo de vanguardismo catalan
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2003) Gregori i Gomis, Alfons
Being one of the best-known poets of the still-alive vanguard generation in Catalonia because of his poignant poems recitations, in his book Comenęament dels comenęaments i ocasió de les ocasions (Beginning o f Beginnigs and Occasion o f Occasions) Enric Casassas rebuilds a medieval composition, the in-baroque-times-developed sextina, which takes the form of a poem entitled “Sextina”. The author introduces a set of new elements giving the poem a metapoetics dimension. At the same time, its verses describe a subtle formal incursion into the ideological confrontation of some Catalan literary movements. It concludes with a romanticism and vanguard antibourgeois deal. In that frame, the poem is analysed from the point of view of three different approaches: A versified reconsideration of some Aristotelian concepts, desire as an unreachable Freudian lack and the performance of sexual voice playing the role of an actual poetry-producing power.

(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2003) Bączyk Tomaszewska, Emilia
The aim of this article is to compare two representatives of modern Spanish literature with the Baroque poet, Góngora. Góngora’s distinct influence on the poetry of an Argentinian poet, Gustavo Garcia Saravf and the Spanish prose writer, Juan Goytisolo on the level of content and form may be observed. The author also considers the problem of human fate, marked with suffering and loneliness, which is described by all the three authors from the perspective of a pilgrim.
