Social functions of physical education at the level of higher education in the United States and Poland (a study on comparative pedagogy based on Notre Dame University in the United States and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan)
Abstract
W pracy została przedstawiona porównawcza analiza społecznych funkcji i roli wychowania fizycznego w Stanach Zjednoczonych oraz w Polsce na przykładzie Uniwersytetu Notre Dame oraz Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza. Praca składa się z 6 rozdziałów. W rozdziale pierwszym przedstawione są cele i metody pedagogiki porównawczej jako dyscypliny naukowej. Opisane są w nim także podstawy teoretyczne, cele wychowania fizycznego oraz poglądy głównych teoretyków w dziedzinie kultury fizycznej. Rozdział drugi przedstawia historie wychowania fizycznego w Stanach Zjednoczonych i w Polsce. Kolejny rozdział opisuje Uniwersytet Notre Dame i Uniwersytet im. Adama Mickiewicza, w kontekście ich historii, struktury, misji i bazy w zakresie wychowania fizycznego i sportu. Druga część pracy ma charakter badawczy. Przedstawione w niej zostały wyniki badań dotyczących postrzegania przez nauczycieli i studentów obu uczelni roli wychowania fizycznego. Ostatni rozdział pracy to podsumowanie i wnioski, oraz propozycje ewentualnych zmian w strukturze wychowania fizycznego na UAM.
This thesis presents a comparative analysis of social functions and the role of physical education in the United States and in Poland. The University of Notre Dame and the University of Adam Mickiewicz were used as examples. The thesis consists of 6 chapters. The first one presents the goals and methods of comparative pedagogy as a scientific discipline. It also describes theoretical foundations, goals of physical education and the views of the main theoreticians in the field of physical culture. The second chapter presents the history of physical education in the United States and Poland. The next chapter describes the Notre Dame University and the University of Adam Mickiewicz, in the context of their history, structure, mission and base in the field of physical education and sport. The second part of the PhD thesis describes the research work. The results of studies on perception of the role of physical education by teachers and students of both universities are presented in this chapter. The last part of the PhD thesis is summary, conclusions and suggestions for possible changes in the structure of physical education at Adam Mickiewicz University.
