Making history present in the latest Polish prose after 1989
Abstract
Przedmiotem mojej analizy stała się proza polska lat 1989-2004, do której zastosowałam kategorię uobecnienia wyzyskaną z koncepcji czasu Martina Heideggera. W swojej pracy stawiam tezę, że literatura po roku 1989 jest szczególnie uwikłana w czas, a sam rok ’89 tak jak jest istotną w porządkowaniu dziejów cezurą, tak niewystarczającą dla oglądu literatury czasów transformacji i potransformacyjnych. W kategorii uobecnienia dostrzegłam sposób na wydobycie literatury z kontekstu politycznego przełomu, czyli z linearności przyczynowo-skutkowej, przestawiając akcent z czasu obiektywnego na czas ludzkiego doświadczenia. Zaproponowałam zatem spojrzenie na prozę z perspektywy uobecnienia historii poprzez doświadczenie tajemnicy (Paweł Huelle, Antoni Libera), doświadczenie przemocy (Jerzy Pilch, Izabela Filipiak, Dawid Bieńkowski, Andrzej Górny) oraz doświadczenie metanostalgii (Jerzy Pilch, Andrzej Stasiuk, Janusz Głowacki). Przejście to zaznaczam w przedstawionym w pracy rozumieniu pojęć ‘historia” i ‘jak-Historia’. Wykazując, że akt uobecnienia odbywa się poprzez uruchamianie doświadczenia, zaproponowałam swoją definicję doświadczenia jako gry pamięci i percepcji z dawnym i obecnym „tu i teraz”. Perspektywa uobecnienia poprzez doświadczenie, jak i samo pojęcie ‘metanostalgia’, to kategorie, które dotąd nie miały zastosowania jako narzędzia interpretacyjne utworu.
The subject of my analysis was the Polish prose of 1989-2004, to which I applied the category of being present obtained from the time concept of Martin Heidegger. In my work, I put forward the thesis that literature after 1989 is particularly entangled in time, and the year 1989 itself, as it is very important as a caesura in the order of history, is insufficient for the view of the literature of transformation and post-transformation times. In the category of being present, I noticed a way to extract literature from the context of the political breakthrough, that is, from the cause-and-effect linearity, by shifting the focus from objective time to the time of human experience. I therefore proposed a look at a prose from the perspective of making history present through the experience of mystery (Paweł Huelle, Antoni Libera), the experience of violence (Jerzy Pilch, Izabela Filipiak, Dawid Bieńkowski, Andrzej Górny) and the metanostalgic experience (Jerzy Pilch, Andrzej Stasiuk, Janusz Głowacki). I mark this shift in the concept of 'history' and 'how-History' presented in the work. Showing that the act of being present is done by running the experience, I proposed my definition of the experience as a game of memory and perception with the old and contemporary "here and now". The perspective of being present through experience, as well as the very concept of ‘metanostalgia', are categories which until now have not been used as interpretative tools of the work.
