Abstract

Beata Włodarska – ABSORBING WORLD’S SYMBOLS BY CHRISTIANITY – JÜRGEN MOLTMANN’S IDEAS AS A TEST FOR ACTUALIZING THE VALUES INCLUDED IN MATRIARCHY TRADITION Ludwig Wittgenstein was right when he noticed that it is difficult to describe in simple words different coffee aromas, so how could Man’s language be able to describe something such subtle as God. Trying to understand difficult branches Man is drifting into pictures. Jürgen Moltmann no-ticed that symbols themselves are representing a pressure between something specified and unspe-cified. This pressure is an evidence for the excess of meaning in symbols. They should make us think, interpret – not define. It looks like symbols are not making sense but uncovering it. Symbols are models guiding into direction what Man’s language is still putting back. In my paper I would like to refer to symbols occuring over and over in human history, which are: Mother of the World, Mother Nature, Festival of Heaven and Earth or Big World Theatre. These pictures are leaving signs in the human soul and clarify the sphere of the unspecified, thus might be called archetypes, accord-ing to Jung. Every archetype has his own world of symbols. Moltmann’s attempts to underline the fact, that Christianity is not only shown as oppression, which makes all authentic feelings „go to hell” (Nietzsche). He also noticed, that Christian world of symbols sometimes accepted and recycled others symbols of the world, and not only had just destroyed them. As a simple example he pre-sented „Festival of Heaven and Earth” listed above, which was accepted and turned into the „Shab-bat” in biblical tradition according to Moltmann’s theory. The Shabbat year is God’s strategy for saving creatures and the world. Moltmann is popularizing ecological theology, which carries the problem of the contemporary world throughout the religious sphere. Some type of ecological con-sciousness gain a religious basis and the symbol of the festival of Heaven and Earth develops and gains a contemporary and an ecological dimension.
