Literackie reprezentacje głuchoty

Abstract

Założeniem dysertacji jest badanie sposobów definiowania i prezentowania głuchoty oraz związanych z nią elementów, w tym kultury Głuchych, na podstawie analizy wybranych tekstów literackich w odniesieniu do stosunkowo młodej dziedziny badań, jaką są kulturowe studia nad niepełnosprawnością (disability studies). Dziedzina ta obejmuje definiowanie wskazanego zjawiska z punktu widzenia społecznych wyobrażeń, a nie z poziomu medycznego. Interpretowanie głuchoty jako niepełnosprawności nie mieści się w definicji kultury Głuchych, bowiem przynależność do tej grupy zależna jest nie od stopnia utraty słuchu, ale poczucia więzi z ludźmi niesłyszącymi. Identyfikacja wydaje się być jednak kwestią niezwykle złożoną, na co wskazują m.in. różnorakie sposoby komunikacji g/Głuchych, np. za pomocą polskiego języka migowego (PJM) lub sztucznie wytworzonego systemu językowo-migowego (SJM). Niezwykle pomocne okazują się tu również studia nas głuchotą (deaf studies), skupione wokół poczucia dumy z głuchoty i poddające badaniu wytwory kulturowe osób solidaryzujących się z kulturą Głuchych. W tych okolicznościach komplikacji ulegają sposoby wyrażania oraz opisu doświadczenia głuchoty przez osoby nie(do)słyszące lub ogłuchłe.

The assumption of the dissertation is to study the ways of defining and presenting deafness and related elements, including the Deaf cultures, based on the analysis of the selected literary texts in relation to the relatively young field of research, which is the cultural disability studies. This field includes defining an indicated phenomenon from the point of view of social imaginations, and not from the medical stand. Interpreting deafness as a disability is not included in the definition of the Deaf culture, because belonging to this group depends not on the degree of hearing loss, but on the feeling of connection with deaf people. Identification, however, seems to be an extremely complexed issue, as indicated by various ways of communicating d/Deaf, e.g. using Polish sign language (PJM) or the artificially created sign language system (SJM). Deaf studies are of great help here, focusing on the sense of pride of deafness and examining the cultural products of the people who are sympathetic to the culture of the Deaf. Under these circumstances, the ways of expressing and describing the experience of deafness by the people who are hard of hearing or deaf are the subject of complications.
