Conservative Perceptions for a Changing Reality. A Critical Look at the Professional Development of School Principals in Israel
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Nets, Mali
As a part of the worldwide trend, in Israel the issues of accountability in management, the school improvement, and the learners’ achievements are topics on the public agenda. In the attempt to address these challenges, Israel implemented a reform in the professional development of the principals, which was applied to the system with the establishment of the School Leadership Institute, Avnei Rosha (2007). The theoretical model of the professional development is based on the career stages approach, which originated in the research studies on the career circles of teachers and principals. These models examined characteristics of different stages in the professional life track of the teacher as well as the mental aspect of the principals’ perception of management throughout the career. The Israeli model adopted these theories as the basis for the professional development of principals and formed a comprehensive program of learning from the stage of the entry into the role to the stage of the retirement. The article will propose a critical look at the professional development program of the school principals from the third year in the role and onwards, on the background of the new challenges with which the Israeli educational system copes. The article will focus on the theoretical and practical aspects of the question of the professional development of principals, will review the influences of recent reforms on the professional development of principals from the third year in the position, will present the immanent gaps of the Israeli program applied to these principals, and will suggest issues for future thought.

Changes in the Educational Practice in Kindergartens in the Czech Republic
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Burkovičová, Radmila
Relatively extensive changes are currently taking place in the system of preschool education in the Czech Republic, which will mainly affect the educational landscape of kindergartens. A personalityoriented model of preschool education requires a considerate, understanding and helping approach to each child. The joint education of all children, where inclusion occurs for certain children who were excluded from children’s communities in the past, is happening within the context of Czech and international legislation. Supporting measures are provided to children where required. However, such measures may ultimately also benefit the teacher.

The Model of Professional Development School (PDS) as a Practice of Partnership University-Schools in Teacher Education: A Multi-year Evaluation Study in Israel
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Bar, Nava
The article presents in its first part the partnership model – PDS (Professional Development School) for teacher education that developed in the 1970s in the United States following criticism and research findings that indicated lack of satisfaction with the traditional teacher education programs. In its second part the article presents findings and discussion of a multi-year study conducted over seven years, from 2010 to 2016, in the first and up till now the only PDS partnership incorporated into teacher training program in research university in Israel. The multi-year study focused on student teachers’ evaluation of the contribution of the teacher training components of the universityschool partnership model (PDS) to their learning of teaching: the practice teaching in the school and the school mentors; the groups of student colleagues as learning communities and their weekly meetings and the university coordinators. From the perception of the PDS partnership as a dynamic and developing process and from the approach of evidence-based practice, the importance of this multi-year study lies in the identification of the essential strengths in the process of the practical experience expressed in the partnerships for their empowerment. In addition the importance of this research is in the identification of the essential weaknesses and challenges, for the purpose of enquiry and learning in the learning communities who take part in the PDS partnerships, and the raising of the necessary courses of action and changes. The importance of the research study in the international aspect lies in the presentation of an additional profile of partnership for the extension of the shared discussion about dilemmas and challenges that arise from the implementation of different partnerships in the training of teachers.

On the Continuum Between Educational and Academic Goals – Results from a Qualitative Research on Israeli High School Homeroom Educators and Subject Teachers
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Bar Gosen, Noah
This research project presents different role perceptions regarding educational and academic aims, among high school instruction personnel. Since its foundation the Israeli education system has defined its role as a socialization agent as well as an academic institution. As national and international achievement tests became more widespread, the focus on academic aspect increased and the influence of academic excellence on school grading can be seen as more influential in comparison to educational achievements. Semi-structured interviews of 14 high school teachers – homeroom educators and subject teachers – were conducted. Results show that homeroom educators put more emphasis on educational aims while subject teachers put more emphasis on academic achievements. Their definition of success was a mixture of both objectives. Homeroom educators tend to apply educational inclusive practices while subject teachers tend to apply instructional ones. International research emphasizes the importance of educational aims and inclusive practices in promoting academic achievements for all (OECD, 2010). The emphasis on evaluation and assessment of academic achievements may results in exclusive practices. These results suggest that adding educational achievements to schools' evaluation scales can encourage all instruction personnel to promote educational aims and inclusive practices as well as academic ones, thus contributing to schools' performance in evaluation tests.

The adjustment was made by formal language modification without intervention in the content, and by the creation of a version in Czech sign language. The B4J.E.P.I. personality questionnaire and a comprehension subtest using the Wechsler intelligence scale for children (further WISC4III) were experimentally modified and tested in practice between 2011 and 2016.

Zarządzanie placówką oświatową – pomiędzy ideałami a rzeczywistością
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Pawłowski, Roman; Wołoszyn, Beata
The aim of this article is to present dilemmas that are experienced by directors/headmasters of educational institutions. On the one hand, they carry out tasks strictly defined by the education law documents, on the other hand, they are expected to create educational leadership. Reality shows that, what the directors would like the most is to pursue directing an education institution in the democratic style, but just as often, in fact, they represent an authoritarian management style. This stems from the multiplicity of tasks they have to perform and the external pressure of the governing authority, the pedagogical supervisory body and the influence of state policy. This situation raises concerns about the functioning of educational institutions and the final outcome of formal education: effective education for life in a democratic society.

T3/ZOOM w edukacji akademickiej (poszukiwanie tematów prac dyplomowych przez studentów)
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Olczak, Małgorzata
Problem finding is described as behaviours, attitudes and cognitive processes that are responsible for creating a vision, posing and formulating problems. Problem finding is an alternative towards behaviours, attitudes and processes participating in solving problems (Jay, Perkins 1997). Problem finding constitutes a significant part of problem7based thinking related to the processes of discovering, formulating and reformulating problems (Szmidt 2003). It is active in “the first phase of solving problems when becoming curious about a situation we try to realise the difficulty and formulate a question that would adequately reflect the situation we find ourselves in as well as the goal we strive for” (Szmidt 2003, 23 [own transl.]). Hence, the question becomes the main element of the process of searching for the problem because it satisfies the cognitive anxiety, while the answer is the central element of the process of solving problems (Arlin 1990). The author analyzed problem finding in the area of polytechnic education. She proposed employing her original T3/ZOOM technique of finding problems and cognitive tasks for the search for Bachelor’s thesis topics by the students.

Wszędzie dobrze, ale w domu najlepiej. Analiza decyzji dotyczących kontynuacji nauki na studiach drugiego stopnia na podstawie danych rejestrowych Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Zając, Tomasz; Komendant-Brodowska, Agata
The aim of the paper is to analyse decisions of first degree graduates concerning continuation of their education on second-degree programmes. One of the changes introduced by the Bologna process was a division of university programmes for the first-degree (bachelor’s degree) and second-degree (master’s degree) programmes. As a result, a new educational threshold has appeared in the course of higher education and at that threshold students decide whether to continue education and if so, which university and programme to choose. All choices involve various costs and benefits, both to be experienced immediately, as well as those that students plan to achieve or incur in the future. The article presents data on the decisions regarding the continuation of studies in the context of the assumptions of rational choice theory: methodological individualism and rationality of actors. The analysed data come from registers of the University of Warsaw. The most common decision of first-degree graduates at the University is not to change anything: either the programme or mode of study. This result will be explained in the context of assumptions about the preferences of the students.

Edukacyjna rola szkoły i nauczyciela wychowania fizycznego w kształtowaniu aktywności fizycznej młodzieży
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Wartecka-Ważyńska, Agnieszka
Physical activity is an important element in psychophysical development of any human, including children and young people. Rational and regular participation in vigorous physical activity contributes to improvement and maintaining good health status. It also affects mood of a person and determines the quality of his or her life. The aim of the paper is to determine the role of school in the context of the factors that stimulate physical activity among young people at the age of 16 to 20 years. The paper has a literature-based and empirical character. The basic research methodologies adopted in the study included analysis of subject literature, diagnostic survey using questionnaire technique, and a statistical method. The questionnaire survey was carried out in 2012-2013 in secondary schools in the region of the Greater Poland Voivodeship in Poland in a group of 850 students. The study demonstrated that young people are physically active and participate in different forms of sport and recreation. However, one third of the young people studied spend their leisure time in a passive manner. They are not involved in any physical activity and spend their leisure time playing computer games, watching the TV, socializing, reading books and magazines and listening to the music. It should be noted that, in this context, the role of physical education teachers and school is critical.

Music Education as a Key Factor in the Full Development of a Child
(Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, 2016) Kłysz-Sokalska, Natalia
Music education is a field of pedagogy dedicated to the development of the individual through artistic action, which is manifested in various forms and activities. Properly conducted music education has a beneficial effect on the right development of child. Research shows that music education stimulates the competence of child's language and mathematical skills, affect the development of creative child's personality and its socialization. Neurodidactics points to the significance of playing the instruments to neurogenesis and the development of skills of concentration, memory and attention. Movement to music, however, is developing spatial and mobility coordination, involves sight and hearing, which has a beneficial effect on the mastery of the whole body – muscles and nervous system. Unfortunately, despite the enormity of the positive aspects, music education is treated superficially, which shows a small amount of hours music lessons at school and inadequate preparation and attitude of teachers for music education. The difficulty with which collides every day music education is also a contemporary musical culture. The low level of the presented music content being the only "marketing product" makes that music education becoming too elitist activity, or is forced to follow along with system.
