    Classroom-based language efficiency assessment: a challenge for EFL teachers

    This paper attempts to highlight the significant multidimensional role of teachers of English as a foreign language in conducting language assessment in the process of teaching. The study presented in the article aimed to investigate school and university EFL teachers’ (n=87) beliefs about the place of assessment in their teaching practice and their role as assessors. The findings indicated that classroom assessment, though appreciated by the study participants, posed a major challenge to them.

    The Impact of Blended Learning on Teaching English for Vocational Purposes

    The one-group experiment attempted to investigate the impact of blended learning on teaching English for Vocational Purposes (EVP). To maximize its internal and external validity, methodology of triangulation was employed. The results obtained indicate considerable progress and statistically significant differences between the pre-treatment and post-treatment scores in the overall acquisition of technical terminology and in the area of vocational vocabulary learned productively.

    Problems with L2 classroom research in the SEN setting with visually challenged learners

    The paper highlights the what, the why and the how questions which may be posed by the novice researcher in the field of visual impairment. I discuss the problematic issues inherent to various stages of research preparation and implementation such as selection of a research method, recruitment of subjects for a study, the lack of theories and models in the field of visual impairment, applicability and administration of standard tests in the SEN setting, keeping up participants’ commitment throughout a project, or sustainment of the researcher’s emotional involvement.

    The aim of the following article is to present the results of the translation of smell lexemes used in the Novel Parfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Süskind and their Polish equivalents in Pachnidło. Historia pewnego mordercy by Małgorzata Łukasiewicz. The article discusses semantic, lexical and syntactical problems, influence of the context on the translation and the results of the analysis.

    Der Kasuswert des prädikativen Adjektivs in Infinitivkonstruktionen des Polnischen

    The following paper addresses the issue of constructions with predicative adjectives in Polish. The main focus of attention will be put on adjectives which are governed by the copula in the infinitive form, as here one can observe some interesting casus alternation between the nominative and the instrumental. On the basis of the author’s own empirical analysis it will be examined which factors determine the choice of the casus. As it seems it is both the syntactic status of the infinitive construction and lexical factors.

    Interculturality on the border of disciplines. Polish language teaching as a means of intercultural education

    The goal of the article is a presentation of the existing and potential relations between Polish language teaching and intercultural education both in the theoretical and practical aspect. The authors present the basic assumptions and goals of intercultural education, paying particular attention to intercultural learning. What follows is a thorough analysis of the presence of the intercultural approach in the theory and practice of the Polish language didactics and its relation to the pedagogy.

    Remarks on learner autonomy and success in foreign language learning as a measure of learner resilience

    In a positively-oriented foreign language pedagogy, where learner autonomy is of utmost importance, focus should be placed on learner resilience. Subsequently, the formation of a resilient learner should be regarded as one of the aims of the formal schooling system on all levels of its functioning. The advantages of the presence of the resilient learner in a properly constructed ecosystem of the school are manifold and are, generally, aimed at generating a high degree of success in school tasks as well as at providing the human society with resilient participants.

After all the conclusion of the author could be that there is an big demand for specialists in the area of applied cultural studies. The formation or education has to refer widely to a conception or the terminus of every-day-culture, so that it could be a big help in economic, social and education professions.

    Vokabellernen (ohne) Vergessen (mit) Vokabellernstrategien

    The aim of this article is to describe the issue of effective vocabulary learning among the students of neophilological faculties as well as to provide an answer to the question on how to learn vocabulary effectively. To achieve this aim, two vocabulary learning strategies (the key-word method and learning by heart) were compared on the basis of empirical research. Moreover, the vocabulary learning style of the informants was described, the conclusions were drawn and recommendations given.
